Y-live Review

Is Y-live a legit survey site?

Y-Live used to be called PopulusLive, but changed its name and is now officially called Y Live Community. This consumer panel is owned by Yonder Consulting, which is a recognized and legit market research firm with several offices around the world. Yonder is a member of MRS, the UK market research association, and adheres to the professional codes of conduct from ESOMAR when managing its research participants.

Data Privacy: Any reason for concern?

As a professional market research company, we think it’s safe to assume that Y-Live will do its best to respect your privacy and protect your personal data. At the same time, it’s important to remember that Y Live is in the business of monetizing people’s data and opinions. Also, there’s never such a thing as a guarantee against data breaches for information that lives online.

The answers you provide in surveys will be shared with Yonder Consulting’s clients to be analysed and reviewed for market research purposes. This data will usually exclude personal data points such as your email address and name unless they specifically ask for this in the survey. And if you think any of the questions are too sensitive, you can just leave the survey at any point in time.

However, this does not mean that your personal data is never shared. By going to the Y Live privacy policy you’ll get a fairly good breakdown of the different types of personal data collected and shared. At the same time, the policy is written in a technical language, which is making it difficult for ordinary users to fully understand.

Writing a summary of the privacy policy would be a good idea because it can help users quickly and easily understand what data is being collected about them, how it will be used, and who it may be shared with. Privacy policies are often long, dense, and filled with legal jargon, which can make them difficult for users to understand. A summary could provide a clearer and more concise overview of the key points in the policy, making it easier for users to make informed decisions about whether or not to share their personal information.

How to get started

To join the panel, you simply fill out the registration form and confirm your registration by clicking on the confirmation link in the email. Provide your name, email address, username, password, birthdate, gender, and postal code to complete your registration.

Nearly all surveys can be completed from a device of your choice, either by computer, phone, or table, where you can earn anywhere and anytime. If you start a survey but don’t qualify for any reason, you are automatically entered into a £250 monthly prize draw. Surveys are engaging, varied subject matter, and are well-matched with your demographics.

How much can you make on Y-live?

Depending on the length, most surveys pay between 1 to 3 points, where 1 point is equivalent to £1.00 and usually takes 5 to 15 minutes to finish. The minimum threshold is 50 points, equivalent to £50.00, for you to be eligible to request a cheque or BACS payment at the next payment date. Y-Live also offers prize draws once every month; you will get one entry for every survey you complete or when you don’t qualify for a survey. By entering the draw, you stand a chance to win the £250 prize.

Is signing up for Y Live worth it?

Despite a few glitches, we were impressed with Y Live during our 10 weeks of testing. It can be hard to qualify for surveys, and the redemption threshold is really high – but on the positive side, you’ll get fairly paid for each survey you complete.

We also like the simplicity of their reward system. While many survey sites have ridiculous point systems in place offering hundreds of worthless points per survey, Y Live gives you 1 point per 5 minutes which equals £1. We couldn’t ask for more transparency than this. Well done!

The biggest drawback of signing up for Y Live is that you might get fed up taking surveys before getting to the high threshold of £50. With an average of 2 points per survey, you’ll need to complete as many as 25 surveys before redeeming. Market research firms such as Yonder Consulting often state that they don’t want “professional survey takers” taking too many surveys, which is in direct contrast to asking someone to complete 25 surveys before getting a reward.

Keeping in mind that many survey sites pay less than £1 per completed 10-minute survey, we still recommend Y Live. As long as you realize that it’s going to take you a while to cash out. For us, it took 8 weeks to reach the £50 threshold, after taking surveys almost on a daily basis.
